Closed Landfill Monitoring and Maintenance Contract

The Council is responsible for routine gas, leachate, surface water and groundwater monitoring and routine maintenance of a network of 34 closed landfill sites across Cumbria to ensure they are managed and maintained in accordance with legislation. Permitted sites are subject to Environment Agency regulatory compliance and The Contaminated Land (England) Regulations 2006. Non -permitted sites are subject to The Contaminated Land (England) Regulations 2006 only. Twenty Six (26) of those landfills are classified as non - permitted with the remaining eight (8) classified as permitted landfills which are spread across the County (see footnote * for definition) .
