The Uniform and Protective Measures Committee (UPMC) have directed that these officers must have suitable clothing to enable them to perform their range of duties. By necessity, these items must provide a greater level of protection. The wearing of flame retardant underwear and balaclavas by officers in some situations will assist in the deceleration of the spread of flames and help dissipate ensuing high temperatures.
