Precautionary salting requirements are identified from the daily weather forecasts throughout the winter period. Instructions for any required action is usually received by 12:00 hrs each day although this can alter if worsening conditions are forecast. In order to be able to respond to these instructions a standby rota of gritter drivers is compiled for all routes in each operational base over the winter period.
